Study Shows Benefits of Scouting for Youth
A Louisiana-based firm, Nielsen & Treas, LLC, has decades of experience in resolving constitutional, statutory, and regulatory law cases. Committed to giving back to the community, the staff at Nielsen & Treas, LLC have donated to Boy Scouts of American and provided scholarships to the scouts of Madisonville Troop 221 to help send scouts to summer camp. Both of the partners of Nielsen & Treas, LLC are Eagle Scouts.
A Tufts University study conducted by researcher Richard Lerner documented multiple benefits for youth who belong to the Boy Scouts. The study compared adolescents who participated in scouting to those who were involved in other activities. In addition to finding an increase in religious reverence among scouts who belonged to church-sponsored troops, the analysis also revealed positive changes in character attributes such as obedience, kindness, trustworthiness, and hopefulness.
Furthermore, researchers looked at how youths embrace prosocial priorities over non-prosocial ones. According to their investigations, adolescents who engaged in scouting place more value on helping others and choosing to do the right thing over being smart or the best at playing sports.
The Tufts study results were discussed at the 2015 Boy Scout Top Hands conference, and information from the presentation continues to be shared today.
