Study Shows Benefits of Scouting for Youth

A Louisiana-based firm, Nielsen & Treas, LLC, has decades of experience in resolving constitutional, statutory, and regulatory law cases. Committed to giving back to the community, the staff at Nielsen & Treas, LLC have donated to Boy Scouts of American and provided scholarships to the scouts of Madisonville Troop 221 to help send scouts to summer camp. Both of the partners of Nielsen & Treas, LLC are Eagle Scouts.

A Tufts University study conducted by researcher Richard Lerner documented multiple benefits for youth who belong to the Boy Scouts. The study compared adolescents who participated in scouting to those who were involved in other activities. In addition to finding an increase in religious reverence among scouts who belonged to church-sponsored troops, the analysis also revealed positive changes in character attributes such as obedience, kindness, trustworthiness, and hopefulness.

Furthermore, researchers looked at how youths embrace prosocial priorities over non-prosocial ones. According to their investigations, adolescents who engaged in scouting place more value on helping others and choosing to do the right thing over being smart or the best at playing sports.

The Tufts study results were discussed at the 2015 Boy Scout Top Hands conference, and information from the presentation continues to be shared today.

About the FBA’s Law Student Mentorship Program

For nearly three decades, Nielsen & Treas, LLC, has served its clients by offering legal counsel and defending their constitutional rights amidst insurance defense and civil litigation. The partners and associates at Nielsen & Treas, LLC, are members of the Federal Bar Association and licensed to practice law in several district courts in the United States.

The Federal Bar Association (FBA) is a professional organization that consists of over 18,000 federal lawyers and judges practicing law in legal firms, corporations, and federal courts in the United States. Guided by its mission to promote education, welfare, and the professional development of attorneys, FBA also facilitates outreach programs, such as the Law Student Mentorship Program, to strengthen their impact in the legal community.

The Law Student Mentorship Program was organized to teach law students and aspiring lawyers about FBA and guide them through their career decisions. From September 2018 to April 2019, mentors advise their mentees on how to set their personal goals and create a roadmap to achieve long-term career aspirations. The mentors explain the realities of practicing law and help their mentees navigate through some common work problems, such as maintaining a good work-life balance, office politics, and other daily stresses. The mentors also share their experience as members of the FBA and help mentees expand their professional networks during firm events.

Insurance Terms, Business, and Law

Law firm Nielsen & Treas, LLC, in Metairie, Louisiana, serves clients throughout the Gulf Coast region. With a focus on constitutional, regulatory, and insurance issues, Nielsen & Treas, LLC, represents clients in insurance law cases.

Insurance law refers to the laws governing the insurance business in the United States. The business of insurance is essentially a contract in which one party agrees to pay a sum of money regularly to another party for coverage from certain losses.

Before 1944, the insurance business was not thought to be “commerce” and therefore was not subject to federal regulation. This changed after the landmark case of United States v. South-Eastern Underwriters Association, in which the US Supreme Court ruled that Congress could regulate interstate insurance transactions. Afterward, Congress enacted the McCarran-Ferguson Act, which allowed states to make laws that regulate their insurance businesses.

St. Jude Hospital’s Treatment Program for Complex Children’s Cancers

Located in Metairie, Louisiana, Nielsen & Treas, LLC, offers legal services to insurance companies. Supportive of charitable causes, members of Nielsen & Treas, LLC, donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

St. Jude helps improve treatment outcomes for children with some of the most difficult forms of cancer, such as leukemia and lymphoma. The hospital accepts referrals from doctors of patients who have complex forms of these diseases and then coordinates care among different experts, including pediatric oncologists and radiation specialists.

Patients arriving at St. Jude first undergo a diagnostic study, after which a treatment protocol is prescribed. This protocol is then explained to patients' parents in detail. Travel and accommodation information is also given since most patients are required to stay in Memphis during the early stages of their therapy.

St. Jude matches patients with appropriate clinical research programs to optimize the probability of successful treatment. The patients’ parents and their referring physicians are given regular updates on the progress of therapies. Afterward, monitoring and follow-up examinations are performed to address residual effects and collect epidemiological data that will help improve future therapies.
