Catastrophic Disease Research & Treatment

Based in Metairie, Louisiana, Nielsen & Treas LLC helps clients navigate governmental regulations and relevant laws. Nielsen & Treas LLC supports nonprofits at the local and national levels, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital researches pediatric diseases, cares for patients with these diseases, and educates and supports their families.

St. Jude treats conditions like immunodeficiencies, genetic diseases, and cancer, collectively called catastrophic diseases. Founded in 1962 and headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, St. Jude accepts patients via physician referrals and treats about 7,800 children, teenagers, and young adults annually at any given time. It also operates facilities on-site for patients needing hospitalization during treatment. St. Jude’s patients are part of ongoing clinical trials that research catastrophic diseases and how to treat them, including gene therapy, marrow transplants, and cellular chemistry.

Multiple sources fund St. Jude’s efforts. ALSAC is the organization that manages St. Jude’s donations from the public, as well as their research grants. St. Jude is the only pediatric research hospital funded by a grant from the National Cancer Institute.
